KRISTINA VIIRPALU F/W 2017 “VIIVI” AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

February 13, 2017

Kristina Viirpalu´s latest collection, VIIVI, is based on the amazing embroidery and knitting techniques of the historically strong independent  women of Estonian seaside fishing villages.

It has drawn inspiration from the crisp Nordic winters and centuries-long traditional handicraft. Sophisticated embroidery patterns, the proud trademark of perseverance and the love of beauty even during difficult times, have transformed into modern couture.

One of designer´s favourites is the crown jewel of Estonian handicraft techniques – the traditional Haapsalu shawl. With a texture so thin it can be pulled through a wedding ring, it has inspired her to create exquisite, delicate bridal gowns and handmade couture dresses.

VIIVI is confident, stands firmly on the strength of tradition and is full of joie de vivre.
