ABOUT
Kristina Viirpalu

The northern winter begins slowly, with delicate frosts and the hush of first snowfall – much like a Kristina Viirpalu gown, born from the lightest yarns and adorned with precious pearls, luminous as a clear winter’s day.

Founded in 2008 by Estonian fashion designer Kristina Viirpalu, the brand is an exclusive luxury house for the modern woman – celebrating strength, femininity and timelessness through opulently handcrafted pieces. Each creation is a dialogue between past and present, where centuries-old techniques are reimagined with contemporary elegance.

At the heart of the brand lies a homage to Estonia’s rich textile heritage, most notably the Haapsalu shawl – a 19th-century lace-making tradition admired for its delicacy, so fine it could pass through a wedding ring. Once treasured by brides as a symbol of refinement, these shawls have been reinterpreted by Viirpalu into ethereal gowns. Airy lace is transformed into full-length couture dresses, layered with tulle, embellishments and luxurious yarns, creating bridal pieces that honour tradition while embracing modern couture.

Equally renowned are Viirpalu’s hand-knitted and hand-embellished bodysuits, inspired by the motifs of Estonian folk costumes. Crafted one stitch and pearl at a time, they are versatile works of art – worn as bridal attire or reimagined with skirts and tailored trousers for new occasions.

Some gowns begin in the hands of one of the few remaining master knitters in Estonia – artisans who preserve a craft once passed from mother to daughter. Others are born directly in the Tallinn Atelier, where design, tailoring and embroidery come together under one roof. Whether emerging from lace knitting or the world’s most exquisite fabrics, each piece is finished locally, shaped with uncompromising precision and artistry.

Over the years, Kristina Viirpalu has graced runways in Paris, New York, London and Tallinn, and dressed international icons including Monica Bellucci and Ashley Graham for the pages of Vogue. Yet at its core, the brand remains devoted to its roots – safeguarding fading skills of knitting and embroidery and elevating them into living art.
